BJJ Journal: Scissor Sweep

Instructor Aeim, Scissor sweep, instead of block on the out side of the knee, push at the bottom of the knee when you pull opponent on top of you. Head control choke from guard - pull opponent down with legs, cross collar and grab up high and elbow up, pull head down. Pull from the top of the head. 3 - 6 minute rounds.

Wildrose Training

Diversions returning from the retrieve continued. Today I decided to test Scout's discipline with another diversion, his big brother Crash. With both dogs at heel, toss one bumper and give the commands no, leave, then heel and walk about 50 yards. Sit to the flush drill (blow the sit command with the whistle), toss another bumper short in front of both dogs. "No, leave." Then point to the original bumper and send both dogs for the retrieve. Scout would come back with the retrieve and put him at heel/ sit. Walk over for the denial and pick up the diversion bumper.  Flush drills, denials. Denials help honor the retrieve. Then threw the kong around for fun time. A different release word is used in play time, than the one used in training/ hunting.

Open Mat & 3 blue belt promotions. Rolled with some warriors and it was HOT today in the gym. 6 x 6 min rounds. 1 x 10 min round.

The 7 core gundog skills:   1. OBEDIENCE 2. STEADINESS AND HONORING 3. DELIVERY TO HAND 4. LINING MEMORIES 5. HANDLING 6. HUNTING COVER 7. MARKING My boy Scout is almost 15 months old and he is a Chocolate Lab. He has been following the Wildrose Way training program. This year will be both of our first hunting season and its been an awesome experience researching and training my boy to be my hunting partner. Still focusing on the basics, I am engraving the first 4/7 gun dog skills; Obedience, Steadiness & honoring, Delivery to hand, Lining Memories. Steadiness training: Diversions - Diversions are forms of steadiness, that is, no switching from one downed bird to another. In training and on the hunt, a dog will encounter countless distractions. BJJ Journal: Single Leg X

Single leg X drill x 20 5 step X guard drill Opponent on knees, grab lapel & knee & feet between opponents knees. Pull at lapel and lift  opponent off ground and slip into X - guard. Make him step and trap close arm to unbalanced Sweep. OR Make step through the legs back take to bow & arrow.

Summer Scouting

Arrived mid day, saw a few other outdoor enthusiasts but not too many. We set up camp on top of a peak where we were able to glass some open meadow. Conditioning/ Hiked along one of the main trails for a couple of miles. We found lots of small meadows tucked into the dense timber. The meadow had massive elk tracks and bed areas.  We saw one black tail doe feeding in a different meadow. There was a ton of big game traffic throughout the area. I noticed lion scat was common and large piles filled with fawn & elk calf hair. We found some bear scat about 2 miles from the spot the dogs and I spooked that big bore.  Need to cut a trail from camp down the logs on the SE side of the peak. Round trip from camp to the intersecting trail way was 5.5 miles.

Partner standing over your chest. Put one hand on the inside of the knee and the other arms wrapped around the ankle grabbing own lapel.  • SL-X sweep w/ lapel as leash. • SL-X, opponent defends with pushing ankle/leg off hip, w/ lapel as leash pull down and use leg to bump forward, when he comes back up slide into SL-X on his other leg. • Opponent has full mount, hip bump to one side to create space and shrimp to create even more space into SL-X, then either technical stand up if he stays...
